Can you name three words you associate with human trafficking?

Money money money, or cynicism, impotence, power, or (un)freedom, corruption.

I can't understand how it's even possible to smuggle people as a pure business, without the so-called law enforcement in this country being aware of it/being able to do anything about it.

I can't understand how on a short bike ride through Vesterbro (just one of many places) you can see girls for sale and being bought without anyone taking action.

I cannot understand how it is such an insurmountable task to eradicate human trafficking in such a small country as Denmark. That it is impossible to unravel these mafia-like relationships and find a punishment that makes it unequivocally unattractive to sell people. Is there no real interest in Denmark from a political perspective? An interest in preventing human trafficking?

What do you think Denmark can do to prevent the development of human trafficking?

Denmark must be able to take its responsibility, possibly by creating rehabilitation centers, educational opportunities, housing conditions and, in the long term, granting residence permits to the women who are nevertheless smuggled here and trafficked. Or we can create measures that will return them to their children/parents/family in a proper and humane way, if there is anyone to return to.

Next - or rather last but certainly not least - create information, information and information. Information is necessary across borders in close cooperation in Europe (yes, preferably worldwide, if Interpol can). Surely it can't be completely impossible! A collaboration to eliminate the lack of morality and unscrupulous corruption. Information in our own schools, yes, all schools, mind you.

What do you think are the most important challenges surrounding human trafficking in Denmark?

I'm currently reading "Uncle Tom's Cabin" to my 9½-year-old daughter. It made an indelible impression on me as a child and I see that this book is doing the same for my daughter. The only difference is that I read it as a story about something that once existed.

Human trafficking is human trafficking and those who are sold and bought are slaves.
