Center Against Human Trafficking

The Center against Human Trafficking (CMM) was established in 2007 as part of the government's action plan to combat human trafficking 2007-2010.

The Center against Human Trafficking is part of the Danish Social Affairs and Housing Agency and reports to the Minister for Equality, who is responsible for ensuring implementation of the action plan.

The center's primary tasks are to coordinate, initiate and develop nationwide social efforts for victims of human trafficking, regardless of the form of exploitation they have been trafficked into; to collect and disseminate knowledge about human trafficking, including the preparation of statistics in the area; and to coordinate cooperation between social organizations and authorities throughout Denmark.

The center ensures social outreach efforts, which are carried out by specially trained social workers and which take place in prostitution environments, in prisons, in the asylum system and via meeting places with associated health services and mobile health services, and thereby creates contact and contributes to the identification of victims of human trafficking.

The center ensures that there is a support system for identified victims of human trafficking through the possibility of staying at a shelter, medical care, legal assistance and planning a prepared repatriation for victims who wish to travel home with support.

CMM collaborates with the police, NGOs and social organizations such as the Red Cross, shelters, judges and defense attorneys, as well as the Danish Immigration Service, with the aim of getting in touch with victims of human trafficking in Denmark and providing the best possible support in accordance with the government's action plan to combat human trafficking.

Due to an increased focus on human trafficking for forced labor, CMM has recently entered into new partnerships such as SKAT and trade unions, which can contribute to contact and identification outside the prostitution environment.

As part of coordinating cooperation in the area, CMM is tasked with training relevant actors in indicators of human trafficking, procedures and existing support options. An important actor is, for example, the police.

Finally, CMM is also responsible for operating a nationwide hotline where victims of human trafficking, citizens or partners can contact if they suspect human trafficking and receive support in moving forward in the system.
