Can you name three words that you associate with human trafficking?

• Slavery

• Cruelty

• Powerlessness

What do you think Denmark can do to prevent the development of human trafficking?

Denmark must prioritize the fight against human trafficking. It is terrible and absurd that slavery is allowed to take place in our civilized buttercup of a country. Denmark must help and protect the victims of human trafficking, far more than today. Trafficked women who come forward with information about their perpetrators must be given immediate asylum, protected and helped to start a new life.

Denmark must cooperate internationally and pursue the perpetrators. There must be no doubt that we in Denmark do not tolerate human trafficking. And Danish men must take off their blinders and take responsibility for their actions. So it cannot be that difficult to guess whether a woman may have been trafficked.

What do you think are the most important challenges surrounding human trafficking in Denmark?

I think the enduring myths surrounding prostitution are one of the biggest obstacles. The myth of the happy whore and welfare refugee is still alive and well and is raised every time there is a serious debate on the subject. There is a tendency to abdicate responsibility with the help of the comfortable idea of the happy whore.

But when we talk about human trafficking, we are talking about women who have been cheated, tortured, threatened with their children and their own lives to spread their legs for Danish men under duress.

A major challenge is to reach the general public with information and knowledge about the subject.
