Can you name three words you associate with human trafficking?

  • Shame

  • Traumatization

  • Anxiety

What do you think Denmark can do to prevent the development of human trafficking?

Protection of victims. Due to traumatic experiences, victims' stories are often difficult to tell, and thus the decision on whether human trafficking is involved can be difficult for the court to make. Possible new legislative changes that protect victims and can keep them safe from perpetrators.

What do you think are the most important challenges surrounding human trafficking in Denmark?

First and foremost, I think that Denmark must ensure that victims of human trafficking are not sent out of the country at risk of reprisals and must not treat the victim as a criminal.

If the existing laws do not allow victims to be granted a residence permit or asylum, but instead only offer them a meager reflection period, then the law must be changed.

It is important that Denmark helps the vulnerable more often and shows outwardly that human trafficking is not acceptable here. In addition, I also think that efforts against the perpetrators must be strengthened and a greater focus must be created on the problem at home. Many are unaware of how growing this type of crime with human trafficking actually is. EU countries must stand together in the fight to stop human trafficking.
